• Dr. P. Padmalatha attended 2 days national conference on “Biodiversity and Human Health “at Nizam college on 17^th& 18^th November and she presented a paper on Filamentous fungi in tap water and bore well water samples of Nacharam area and their effect on public health.

Workshops:

• Dr. P. Padmalatha, Department of Botany attended a five days workshop on “Introduction to Traditional Knowledge – Intellectual Property & People’s rights” organized by Indian Knowledge Systems Division Ministry of education and CSIR – Traditional Knowledge Digital Library unit, Ministry of Science & Technology from 7th – 11th August 2023.

• 81st CSIR Foundation Day Celebrations Cum practical Demo Session, CSIR – NEERI - Five students from II, III BtBC & BtMC V. M. Navya Shree, Preethi, Pravalika, Neha, akshitha along with Mrs. Sugantha Mala faculty attended a workshop conducted by CSIR- NEERI as a part of CSIR Foundation Day Celebration on 22nd & 28th September 2022.
• The Department of Botany and biotechnology organised one week workshop on bioinformatics and drug development with an objective to upgrade the students in recent developments of bioinformatics. This workshop was held from 18th to 24th of May 2022. The resource person was Mr. Deebashish, research scholar from Nitza Bio venture research institute, Naredmet, Hyderabad.

Guest Lecture / Expert Talk:

• Dept. of Botany organized a guest lecture on 10th Feb 2023 on the topic of Soil Health and Analysis,. The resource person was Dr. Vijay Sandeep, Scientist at Centre for Sustainable Agriculture (CSA), Hyderabad. The resource person enlighten the students about types of soil in India, soil nutrients, physical and biological properties effecting soil health, soil conservation, different types of organic manures and their uses, sources of organic nutrients. Total 82 students of II & III year of BtBC and BtMC participated in this programme.
• Dept. of Biotechnology organized a guest lecture on the topic Next Generation Sequencing on 20th Feb 2023 for the II & III years BtBC and BtMC students. Dr. Kalyani P. the guest speaker, chief scientific officer of Gene power Rx, K & H Personalized Medicine Clinic, Hyderabad, discussed about the Genomic Sequencing, the up gradation to next generation sequencing, application of Bioinformatics. She motivated the students to take up Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics.
• Department of Botany and Biotechnology organized an expert talk on “Nutrition and Health Benefits of Millets” on 15th Sept. 2022 with an aim to brings awareness about importance of millets in human diet for good health to B.Sc. BtBC and BtMC students. The guest speaker was Dr. Anitha Seetha, Senior Nutrition Scientist, ICRISAT, Hyderabad.

Orientation Programs:

• Department of Botany and biotechnology organized a life skill program orientation program by SPANDANA EDA an International Foundation on 22nd and 29th August 2023 for BA, BBA, B. Com., Physical and Life Sciences students respectively. The speakers enlightened students on the life skills in various topics like Emotional skills, Interpersonal skills, Study skills and Financial skills on the banner SEED (Spandana Education and Encouragement Deed). Total 300 students were the part of this life skill awareness programme.
• Department of Botany & Biotechnology organized an awareness program on Millets for supporting staff on 17th June 2023 with an aim to know the health benefits of millets in our daily diet. The program included showing different types of millets, nutritional values and their recipes. The resource persons were Dr. P. Padmalatha. They enlightened on importance of timely meals and different types of millets, Mrs. Sugantha Mala and Dr. Anjana spoke on various recipes that can be prepared using millets.
• Career Guidance program was organized on 3rd Dec 2022 by Botany & Biotechnology department to bring awareness about various job opportunities in Biotechnology, PG courses and Molecular techniques to be trained to get placement in research labs. The resource person was Dr. Madhavi from Xpert Bio Innovation Centre Pvt.Ltd., Boduppal , Hyderabad. 80 Students of I, III year BtBC and BtMC attended the program.
• On 18th March Dept. of Botany & Biotechnology organized Orientation program on Preparation of UPSC Civil Services to all under graduate Life Science students. The speaker was Dr. A. R. Khan, Director of KSG.
• Dept. of Botany and Biotechnology organized online orientation for National Level Championship Event on 30th March 2023. This was conducted by Make intern Skill training company & IIT Khadagpur to bring awareness among students about skill development training program at college level, followed by mock test, selection of top five students for second round to go for finale. 35 students participated in this orientation programme.

Faculty as Resource Person:

• Dr. Anjana Shukla faculty Dept. of Botany was a resource person for the orientation programme on SIC (School innovation Council) for the CSA schools teachers on 4th Sept 2023.
• Mrs. Suganthamala and Dr. Anjana Shukla from Dept. of Botany & Biotechnology were invited as a guest speakers by NCC committee of St. Pious X Degree & P.G. College on the occasion of International year of Millets, to give awareness talk on the nutritional value of Millets to the NCC cadets on 9th Dec. 2023. Total 40 cadets attended the programme.
• Dr. Padmalatha was a resource person for the webinar Awareness program on Impact of Deforestation on Human life for NSS Unit I &II volunteers on 15th may 2023.
• Dr. Anjana Shukla was a judge for the XV CSA Literary and Cultural Festival VGNANA KALOTSAV – 2022 held on 3rd and 4th Dec. 2022 at St. Pious X High School, Ramnagar, Hyderabad.

Educational Trips:

• An educational trip was organised by the Dept. of Botany and Biotechnology along with I.II & III BtBC Botany students to Millets Incubation Centre, Professor Jaisankar Telangana State Agriculture University, Hyderabad, Telangana on 7th Nov. 2023. Dr. Anila Kumari, incharge, incubation centre along with her team explain the procedure of millets processing of food. Students visited the Horticulture Dept. and Mushroom growing techniques unit where students explore the methods of growing vegetables and mushrooms on small skills.
• Dept. of Biotechnology, visited CSIR-NEERI (Hyderabad Zonal Centre). Faculty Mrs. Sugantha Mala and Dr. P. Padmalatha along with 35 final year BtBC and BtMC students on the occasion of 66t Foundation Day of NEERI on 10th April 2023. They interacted with the senior faculties.
• Dept. of Botany & Biotechnology in collaboration with STAR NGO visited IC50 MSME Exhibition at ICRISAT on 22nd Feb 2023. The objective of this visit was to expose the students to advance techniques adopted in the field of Agriculture, i.e., cultivation and importance of millets in human diet, development of greenhouse technology, hydrophonics, Plantex (Software for identifying diseases and treatment.)48 students of II& III year BtBC , BtMC .
• Dept. of Botany and Biotechnology organized educational visit for III years BtBC & MBC students to G. Nagaratnam Naidu’s Organic farm at Taramathipet, on 14th May 2022. The Naidu’s nature’s farm started in 1989 on a barren land. With his effort he converted the barren land into a farm house using organic manure.
• Educational Field Trip was organised by Department of Botany & Biotechnology from 28th September - 4th October2022 to Nanaji Deshmukh Veterinary College, Jabalpur, St. Aloysius College Jabalpur and Indira Gandhi National Tribal University at Amarkantak Madhya Pradesh.

MOU's

• Department of Botany and Biotechnology signed a MOU on 8th December 2022 with CSA (Centre for Sustainable Agriculture), Tarnaka, Hyderabad. CSA is an independent resource organization working with farmers, promoting sustainable agriculture and engaged in the action research. Collaborative work on soil sample will be carried out in department and students will participate in CSA programme.
• Department of Botany and Biotechnology signed a MOU on 13th April 2022 with Nitza Bio venture, Hyderabad to improve the students towards Research Technology, Project work, Education and Placement (TPCEP) Cooperation.

Webinars /Conferences Attended:

• As a part of the certificate course, the Department of Botany & Biotechnology organized a webinar on Organic Farming on 2nd December 2022 in collaboration with the Department of Botany, Providence Women’s College, Calicut. The resource person was Dr. Sincy Joseph from Nirmala College for Women, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.In- all 86 students benefitted from the webinar.
• Eight students from II, BtBC Japhia Riana Christlin, Srujan, Shreya G., Varsha K., and III BtMC – Harshitha, Vaishnavi, Gracy Shiny & Sreeja attended a two days Global Biotech Conference conducted by Bioangels at Plaza Hotel, Begumpet on 16th & 17th Sept. 2022.

Extension Activity:

• Neighbourhood activity was started in the year 2008 with an aim to provide awareness in the society on various systems of medicine for human health. This program was organised every five years. As a part of this department of Botany & Biotechnology organized Interaction with Neighbourhood –IV an “Awareness program on Traditional Medicine [Acupressure and Mudras] “on 21st November 2023. The resource person was Dr. J. Premalatha Sr. Medical officer, Vemana yoga research Institute, Hyderabad. Along with her subordinates they spoke on importance of yoga in daily life, diet as medicine, showed mudras for balancing the energy in the body and acupressure points for various ailments like back pain, knee pain , pcods, asthma.
• As the part of extension activity Department of Botany and Biotechnology donated Rs 3000 for the payment of school fee of orphanage student of “Divya Disha” (Regd no 1992/2028) Madhava Nursing Home Lane, Sarojini Devi Road, Secunderabad.

• Mrs. Suganthamala .S attended a webinar on Bioprocess & Biotechnology: An Insight Session on 22nd Nov 2022, organized by Taylor & Francis Group and BRSI – Biotechnolgical Research society India.
• Dr. Anjana Shukla, faculty Department of Botany, completed NPTEL 12 weeks Course in Intellectual Property Rights from 23rd January to 25th April 2022.
• Mrs. Suganthamala .S attended knowledge series on Intellectual Property Rights in Biotechnology: Prosecution of Biotech Patents organized by BioNcube, IPFC and WIPO TISC at ICRSAT on 13th Dec. 2022.
• Dr. Anjana Shukla participated in the design your destiny Asthamangal Meditation organized by Reaserch Foundation of india & RFI – CARE on 16th March 2023.

Students Participation:

• Subhangi (III BtMC) completed certificate course in the skill development program on Theory & Hands on training in clinical Biochemistry, Microbiology and Pathology Techniques for Biomedical Applications from 31st july-11August 2023 at CSIR- Indian Institute of chemical Biology , Kolkata.

• Juveria Yashmeen , III BtBC attended a National Seminar on "Crises of Corona" on 11th Oct 2023 in Osmania University, Hyderabad.
• Farath Aziz, Bhoomika, Lasya Bandi, M. Harshita and Chandra Deepthi of III BtMC attended and presented a paper entitled "Phytochemical Analysis on Cleome Viscosa and Euphoria milli- A review " on 6th International Conference on Bioenergy, Environment and Sustainable Technology -2023" on 18th-20th Oct 2023 organised by Arunai Engineering College, Tiruvannamalai, Tamilnadu.
• Two days Conference at Global Biotech (16th & 17th Sept 2022) Eight students from II, BtBC Japhia Riana Christlin, Srujan, Shreya G., Varsha K., and III BtMC – Harshitha, Vaishnavi, Gracy Shiny & Sreeja attended a two days Global Biotech Conference conducted by Bioangels at Plaza Hotel, Begumpet on 16th & 17th Sept. 2022.
• Two students Srujana II BtBc and Nazmeen II BtMC attended Workshop on “Modern Techniques of Life sciences & Chemical sciences “on 3rd and 4th may 2023 at MNR Degree & PG College, Kukatpally Hyderabad. The workshop included Gel filtration chromatography, Antimicrobial assay methods for antibiotics, minimum inhibitory concentrations, Differential leucocyte count, Capsular staining.
• Students of III BtBC (K. Manasa Reddy, Preety, Poojitha and Pravalika )went for the volunteering services of an educational visit of EKIDZ High School students to Zinda Tilismath Factory and Honey Bee factory organized by STARS NGO with an aim to extend social responsibility towards the initiatives taken by the organization for children, youth and community service on 31st Jan 2023.

Blog

Labs and other facilities:

Lab is equipped with Soxhlet  apparatus, Double distillation for Plant tissue culture work, Orbital shaking incubator, Co2  incubator, Centrifuge  etc.

Achievements

Mrs. Suganthamala .S was awarded Jawaharlal Nehru National Seva Yuva Puraskar – 2022 by Golden care club on 11th Nov. 2022.

Mrs. SuganthaMala, Faculty dept. of Biotechnology, CTO NCC was awarded National Youth Icon award – 2023 on 12th January 2023 by Golden Care Club, Bengaluru.

K. Arsha & Naga Sai Pallavi from III BtBc bagged 1st prize in Craft making competition on the occasion of Independence Day Celebration.

Sakshi and group from III BtBC bagged 2nd prize in group dance performance held on the occasion of St. Pious Feast.

Sakshi Raj Purohit & Suhana Shaik from III BtBC bagged the 2nd Prize in Hindi Divas debate competition.

G. Amulya Reddy of III BtBC of the academic year 2013-2016 was awarded the best Alumni award in the year 2018 for her academic excellence and she is founder of Non-Government Organization OSFS (Our Step for Service). Her organization is working for Women Empowerment.

T.Suma of III Btbc of the Academic year 2003-2006 was award the Best Alumni  award in the  year 2016  for her outstanding performance in Academics. She has published 21 papers in reputed National &International Journals.

Clubs

Eco Club

• As a part of Eco- club activity Dept. of Botany & Biotechnology organized an awareness program on “Organic farming and Organic matter decomposition by Bokashi and Vermiculture” on 16th September 2023. Students from III BtBC explained about Organic Farming, III BtMC students Aarathi, Akshitha, Phincy, Bhoomika demonstrated the process of Bokashi and Vermicomposting. Seeds scrambled, Blooming Basket and floral puzzle games were organized. In total 150 students participated in eco club activity.
• Greening the campus with medicinal herbs, Composting of hostel kitchen waste & Terrace gardening.
• Department of Botany and Biotechnology organized Eco – Club activity on 24th Sep. 2022 Workshop on "Natural Farming- Preparation of Jeevamrutham and Humic Acid". The resource person was Mr. Sreenivasa Rao from Thakur Organic farm. In all 81 students of BtBc and BtMc were benifited by the workshop.
