About

The Department of Mathematics was established in the year 1993 with the combination of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry (M.P.C)

  • B.Sc. Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science (M.P.Cs) was introduced in the year 1994.
  • B.Sc. Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science (M.P.Cs) was introduced in the year 2001.
  • B.Sc. Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science (M.S.Cs) was introduced in the year 2021
  • The Faculty of Mathematics are well qualified and experienced lectures in Undergraduate and Postgraduate teaching.

Vision

  • To provide an environment where students can learn, become competent users of Mathematics and understand the use of Mathematics in critical thinking, reasoning, problem solving and applications in Real Life and also in other disciplines

Mission

  • To offer course that ensure the student to develop the skills that able to contribute to the society.
  • To motivate and simulate the young minds to develop their knowledge and application of Mathematics in other fields.
  • Motivation is the key for the department.
  • To make students capable of discharging, professional, Social and economic responsibilities ethically

Objectives

  • The knowledge to understand the fundamental of Mathematics from the base and to explore concepts and develop problem solving skills, critical thinking and logical reasoning.
  • Know and demonstrate understanding of the concepts from the branches of Mathematics i.e. Numbers, algebra, Geometry and trigonometry and Discrete Mathematics.
  • Use appropriate mathematical concepts and skills to solve problems in both familiar and unfamiliar situations including those in real life contexts.
  • Select and apply general rules correctly to solve problems including those in real life contexts.
  • Students are encouraged to choose and use ICT tools as appropriate and, where available, to enhance communication of their mathematical ideals. ICT tools can include graphic display, calculators, screenshots, graphing etc.

Workshop Conducted:

  • The Department of Mathematics has conducted a ‘One Day work shop’ on Linear Algebra using MATLAB on 23rd November-2023 for St.Francis UG final year students in MBA lab from 10:00am to 3:00pm. The Speaker was Mrs. K. Jyothi, Head Dept of Mathematics and Mehrunissa Begum from Mathematics department

Guest Lecture organised:

  • The Dept of Mathematics has arranged a Guest Lecture on Graphs and Trees by Asst.Prof Mrs. P.Chandrakala from Aurora College on 25-09-2023 for the 1st BCA students.

National Educational Day:

  • On the occasion of National Education Day, The Department of Mathematics had conducted a Debate competition on 11-11-2023 for all UG and PG Physical Science students.

National Mathematics Day:

  • The Department of Mathematics has organised a Skill teaching program in school (Extension Activity) on 05-08-2023. One Faculty and 12 students visited to Soham School, Green hills Colony Mallapur. Students have explained the general and subject topics.

Green Initiative:

  • The Department of Mathematics has visited a school for an activity Exploit Nemophile (Green Initiative) on 16-02-2024. One Faculty and Sigma Club members visited to Mandal Parishad Upper Primary School, Nacharam.

Inter Disciplinary Activity:

  • The Department of Mathematics has organised an Inter Disciplinary activity ‘Logic Tangle’ on 20-02-2024 for III B.A (MPML) students. Mathematical Aptitude test was conducted and 24 students participated out of which two winners were awarded.

Faculty as Resource person:

  • Mrs.Mehrunissa Begum, Department of Mathematics has visited St.Pius X High School, Ramnagar as a resource person for ‘Knowledge -Odessy science exhibition’ on 13-12-2023
