About

The Department of Mathematics was established in the year 1993 with the combination of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry (M.P.C)

  • B.Sc. Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science (M.P.Cs) was introduced in the year 1994.
  • B.Sc. Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science (M.P.Cs) was introduced in the year 2001.
  • B.Sc. Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science (M.S.Cs) was introduced in the year 2021
  • The Faculty of Mathematics are well qualified and experienced lectures in Undergraduate and Postgraduate teaching.

Vision


  • To provide an environment where students can learn, become competent users of Mathematics and understand the use of Mathematics in critical thinking, reasoning, problem solving and applications in Real Life and also in other disciplines

  • To offer course that ensure the student to develop the skills that able to contribute to the society.
  • To motivate and simulate the young minds to develop their knowledge and application of Mathematics in other fields.

Objectives


  • The knowledge to understand the fundamental of Mathematics from the base and to explore concepts and develop problem solving skills, critical thinking and logical reasoning.
  • Know and demonstrate understanding of the concepts from the branches of Mathematics i.e. Numbers, algebra, Geometry and trigonometry and Discrete Mathematics.
  • Use appropriate mathematical concepts and skills to solve problems in both familiar and unfamiliar situations including those in real life contexts.
  • Select and apply general rules correctly to solve problems including those in real life contexts.
  • Students are encouraged to choose and use ICT tools as appropriate and, where available, to enhance communication of their mathematical ideals. ICT tools can include graphic display, calculators, screenshots, graphing etc.
